Wear Husband Name Make Lower Women Salaries
After marriage, women usually wore her husband’s surname. In fact, husband’s name is not only used for social purposes, but also professional. In fact, according to the survey, women who wore her husband’s last name were more difficult to get a job. At least, this applies in the Netherlands.
According to a study by social psychologist at Tilburg University, The Netherlands, women who take their partner’s name was considered by the test subjects more attention, more dependent, more emotional, but less intelligent and less competent. It was discovered when researchers compare it with other women who still wear his own name.
A husband name was also affects the decision when hiring female candidates. In one part of the study, 50 participants were asked to judge a female candidate based on his e-mail to HR Manager Position, and measure the potential of his salary. If told that the candidate using her husband’s name, participants who judge likely will not hire her. In addition, her salary was set lower USD 10 million rather than candidates who defend their own name.
The results of this study are only the beginning and the researchers acknowledge is still need to do further study. However, they recommend that professional women to consider the effect of changing the name of branding themselves.
